Use of open source not only lowers the per-library cost of running software, it also empowers libraries with a higher level of control over customization and the overall direction of software development. |

Shiskha India is working towards the cause of enabling and empowering schools and teachers with various open source tools and softwares to enhance and improve their teaching-learning process. Shiksha has a network of over 2000 schools spread across India and conducts regular workshops to train the teachers in the use of various open source tools for their pedagogy and/or productivity based needs. The Software Engineering Group (SWENG) is a research group of the Programming Languages and Software Engineering (PlaSE) lab, which belongs to the department of informatics (one of the 37 departments or schools). The SWENG group deals with research, development and teaching of software engineering in general, and, in particular, all aspects related to software quality, cost, reliability, software development process of both Closed-source and Free/Open Source Software, and eXtreme Programming and Agile methods. |
