Sylpheed is a lightweight, but secure e-mail client. It also supports access to Usenet Newsgroups. Sylpheed provides an intuitive user-interface. Sylpheed provides a GUI interface but is also designed for keyboard-oriented operation, so Sylpheed can be widely used by beginners to power users. Sylpheed emphasizes text based e-mails for better security and can even integrate with your favorite text editor if you'd prefer to use it to compose e-mails.
The Slypheed project also includes Sylph-Searcher, a separate fast, full-text search facility and LibSylph a library with Sylpheed's core features.
Sylpheed is a free software distributed under the GNU GPL (the library part is GNU LGPL). You can freely use, modify and redistribute it under the license. Sylpheed runs on many systems such as Windows, Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and other Unix-like systems.
